OCA Research
Welcome to the Ontario Camps Association Research Page
In 2005 the OCA created the Educational Research Task Force in the effort of promoting access to existing research in organized camping and to the furthering of research efforts involving OCA camps and universities internationally.
Research in Organized Camping is Educational
- It promotes public confidence: Research findings assure parents that accredited camps such as those of the OCA are dedicated to the highest international standards of education and scientific inquiry into the phenomenon of camp and the camp experience.
- It is informative: There are many important yet little known documents that cover a variety of topics related to organized camping. In the interest of: informing Canadians unfamiliar with camp, increasing a focus on educational and learning opportunities presented within camps, dispelling myths about camps, specialty services offered by camps, these research papers are now available.
- It is a stimulus: Universities, faculties and students should be encouraged to become involved in interdisciplinary research into organized camping.
- It speaks to educators/school boards, politicians/government, parents/social agencies, as to the benefits and scope of organized camping.
