Who we are
Stephen Fine, Ph.D. Stephen Fine, Ph.D. is the Founder & Co-Director of The Hollows Camp (est. 1981). He is the current Educational Research Chair, a past member of the OCA board, and advisor to the Canadian Summer Camp Research Project, a partnership of the Canadian Camping Association/Association des Camps du Canada and the University of Waterloo. Dr. Fine has designed dynamic outdoor programs for young people geared to the development of physical and mental well-being, socio-cultural networking, and ecological literacy. He has taught environmental studies in the camp setting and at the university level. His research has explored topics such as: personal and collective values towards the environment, learning in context, and learning transfer to later life.

John Jorgenson, Director, Camp Tawingo - the year round site of the Camp Tawingo Summer Camp, Camp Tawingo Outdoor Centre and Tawingo College, an independent elementary school; Secretary, International Camping Fellowship; Past President of Ontario and Canadian Camping Associations; former editor for the CCA's Camping Magazine and the ICF's International Camping Fellowship Newsletter. Jorgi has been part of the steering committees for all of the International Camping Congresses from 1994 in Toronto through St Petersburg (1997), Tokyo (2000), Melbourne (2003) to Mexico (2005). In addition, he has been a keynote speaker and session presenter at Camping and Education Conferences across Canada as well as in the United States, Mexico, Greece, Russia, Venezuela, Japan and Australia.

M. Deborah Bialeschki, Ph.D., was on faculty at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies for 20 years. She retired in 2005 as an Emeritus Full Professor and is now Senior Researcher with the American Camp Association where she is involved in research focused on youth development and the camp experience. She has authored 10 books, collaborated on 15 book chapters, and contributed over 100 articles and presentations in national and international journals and conferences. Deb has been editor of major research journals, chaired national research conferences, and elected to professional academies. She received the prestigious Tanner Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching from UNC-CH and the SPRE National Award for Excellence in Teaching, as well as numerous awards for her leadership and service to the American Camp Association.

Dave Graham, Director at Camp Kandalore - Dave Graham has been the Director at Camp Kandalore for 10 years and he has over 20 years of camp experience. Dave has a Bachelor of Business Administration from St. Francis Xavier University and is actively involved in camping both in Canada and internationally. He is a past president of the Ontario Camping Association and has participated in and spoken at Camping Conferences in Canada, the United States, Japan, Australia and Mexico.

Sol Birenbaum, Director at Camp Walden Sol Birenbaum is the Director of Camp Walden. He has over twenty-five years of camping experience at Ontario camps as a Camper, Counsellor, Area Head, and Director, as well as a Bachelor of Science and certification as a teacher. Sol is a past recipient of the prestigious Ron Johnstone Memorial Award given annually by the Ontario Camping Association recognizing outstanding contributions in the field of camping. Sol currently sits on the Executive Board of the Society of Camp Directors.
