Happiness

(Excerpts from Worship Service at Camp Wahanowin, 1974)

Let's talk about all of the things that make us happy. Happiness means many different things to different people. We have selected various meanings of happiness which we feel will have some meaning for everyone.

To me, happiness is a joyful song. It doesn't matter if it is the words of the music, as long as the song makes me happy. Probably everyone can think of a song that means happiness to them.

Happiness is a summer vacation. We are fortunate to be spending our vacation here at camp, but for many others, a summer holiday means only a break from going to school. Regardless of where you are, a summer vacation is a time of happiness for everyone.

Happiness is feeling good and being able to participate in all activities. So often, we tend to complain about what we have to do, instead of appreciating the opportunity to do it. So let's try to enjoy every minute of every day and feel good.

Happiness is getting along with others. Since we do not live alone, either at home or at camp, it is important that we think of others as well as ourselves. For example, anything that we do at camp will probably affect other people in our cabin. To me, happiness is getting along with everyone.

Happiness is being someone else's friend. Most of us think of friends in terms of what they have done for us. But to me, happiness is what I can do for my friends. Happiness is really helping a friend.
