Summer Camp 2010 Employee Description

 WELLNESS DIRECTOR

Requirements of Position:

·         Willing to provide leadership to a dynamic staff team delivering a girl-centered, exciting camp program experience to girls.

·         Willing to live in a residential setting during the implementation of the camp program.

·         Willing to participate in all training programs required for this position. These training dates will be provided with the offer of employment.

·         Available for the full duration of the camp program. (see note below)

·         Provide all required documentation within the set timeframes identified in letters of offer.

 

Qualifications:

• Preferred: Currently working and maintaining credentials as a RN or RPN in the province of Ontario or a medical professional.

• Experience in supervising a staff team responsible for health care procedures.

• Strong organizational and communication skills.

• Demonstrated ability to work in and lead others in a team atmosphere.

• Current throughout employment period:

o Standard First Aid including CPR C.

o Criminal Records Check to comply with the requirement of obtaining the equivalent of membership in Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada.

o Malpractice insurance.

• Knowledge of the Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada program is an asset.

 

Reports to: Camp Director

 

Responsibilities:

Section One: General

• Be conversant with the appropriate organizational and governmental requirements for the implementation of responsibilities. This includes but is not limited to:

·         Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada “Safe Guide”

·         Girl Guides of Canada, Ontario Council terms of engagement.

·         Ontario Camping Association Standards.

·         Municipal and provincial regulations as they apply to camp programs.

·         Medical directives provided by the camp’s health care provider.

• Actively provide leadership to the health care team in the implementation of the overall camp health care program.

• Be an effective role model to campers and colleagues. This includes but is not limited to living the vision, mission and values of Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada, the respectful treatment of all campers/staff, compliance with all rules/regulations, maintaining a clean & safe work/living environment and general behaviour throughout the employment period.

• Actively participate in the resolution of concerns that may arise within the team or with campers and implement appropriate process for the management of such.

• Notify the Camp Director of any concerns as they arise.

 

Section Two: Health Care & Wellness Leadership

• Overall responsibility for the implementation of the camp health care program.

• In partnership with the Camp Director implement a training program for all staff who will hold responsibilities in health care which includes first aid, health/safety, and risk management procedures.

• Implement assessment procedures of campers including:

·         First day wellness and lice checks

·         Final wellness check in

·         Review of all medications (prescription or over the counter)

·         Development of medication cycle

·         Updating of records based on information provided during arrival

• Ensure that the camp environment is assessed to ensure that appropriate health and safety practices are provided at all times.

• Review all camper files prior to their arrival to ensure that appropriate practices are in place to maintain their health and safety while at camp.

• Development of process and procedures for the ongoing health care, follow up and management of issues that arise.

• Training and implementation of an appropriate hygiene program within the camp to ensure that illness and injury is kept at minimal levels.

• With the knowledge of the Camp Director, Camper Care Director and/or Camp Coordinator, call parents/guardians to discuss wellness related issues.

• Ensure that all governmental and organizational practices/procedures are adhered to.

• Maintain all files and data in a confidential manner to ensure the privacy of the individual is protected.

• Ensure appropriate reports are provided at the end of the camp season in accordance to the procedures established by Girl Guides of Canada, Ontario Council.

 

Notes:

·         It is the responsibility of the individual to obtain and retain current certification prior to the start of their volunteering. The cost of certification is that of the individual.

·         Girl Guides of Canada, Ontario Council reserves the right to amend this job description from time to time.

 

Contract Dates (includes week of training):

Adelaide*: Aug 4-23

Woolsey*: June 12-Aug 1

Doe Lake: June 12-Aug 30

Wyoka: June 12-Aug 23

*Adelaide and Woolsey applicants should consider merging their contracts
