Summer Camp 2010 Employee Description

 

 FOOD SERVICES DIRECTOR

Requirements of Position:

                        Willing to be a member of a dynamic staff team delivering a girl-centered, exciting camp program experience to girls.

                        Willing to live in a residential setting although not mandatory.

                        Willing to participate in all training programs required for this position. These training dates will be provided with the offer of volunteering.

                        Provide all required documentation within the set timeframes identified in letters of offer.

 

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3 years experience in food service which includes quantity assessment, ordering, delivering and food handling oversight.

• Strong organizational skills including budget management.

• Demonstrated ability to work & lead others in a team atmosphere.

• Current throughout employment period:

o Safe Food Handling Certificate.

o Standard First Aid including CPR C.

o Criminal Records Check to comply with the requirement of obtaining the equivalent of membership in Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada.

• Knowledge of the Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada program is an asset.

 

Reports to: Camp Director or her designate

Supervises: Food Services Staff

Responsibilities:

Section One: General

• Be conversant with the appropriate organizational and governmental requirements for the implementation of responsibilities. This includes but is not limited to:

·         Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada “Safe Guide”

·         Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada program for all ages.

·         Girl Guides of Canada, Ontario Council terms of employment.

·         Specific summer camp program opportunities advertised for the summer program 2010.

·         Government regulations as they pertain to food handling practices.

• Actively provide leadership & participate as a member of the camp team in the implementation of the overall camp program.

• Be an effective role model to campers and colleagues. This includes but is not limited to living the vision, mission and values of Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada, the respectful treatment of all campers/staff, compliance with all rules/regulations, maintaining a clean & safe work/living environment and general behaviour throughout the employment period.

• Actively participate in the resolution of concerns that may arise within the team or with campers and implement appropriate process for the management of such.

• Notify the Camp Director of any concerns as they arise within the food services department.

Section Two: Food Management

• Provision of leadership in & responsibility for the quantity assessment, ordering and distribution of food & other consumable supplies required to deliver the menus as established for the camp program.

• Ensure that options of foods and alternatives are considered at each meal and are age appropriate.

• Provision of leadership in & responsibility for the safe food handling practices throughout all operations of the camp. This includes but is not limited to:

o On site food preparation by campers or staff.

o Centralized food preparation by campers or staff.

o Off site food preparation, such as overnights & trips, by campers or staff.

• Provision of leadership in & responsibility for food storage at all locations within the camp.

• Ensure that appropriate training and follow up is done with all staff responsible for any aspect of food handling.

• Provide support and direction to those working in the food preparation responsibilities to ensure that campers are provided with nutritious, well-balanced meals within appropriate time frames throughout the day.

• Develop and implement inventory controls to ensure that all food supplies are available for the provision of meals and minimal food wastage is incurred.

• Develop practices to ensure minimal stale dated food is in inventory. Develop appropriate disposal practices should there be items in this category and ensure that the products are not being served to campers.

• Oversee the implementation of food practices relevant to the dietary restrictions and allergies within the camp population.

• Develop a fair, consistent work schedule for the members of the food services team and ensure that assistance for all components of work are implemented.

• Maintain all paperwork for the payment of receipts, inventory control and effective ordering.

• Comply with & implement all established camp policies and practices that are applicable to the responsibilities being undertaken.

• Manage any food component of any tuck program.

• Provide reports as required on the activity of the leadership program. This includes but is not limited to:

            End of year summary report detailing the needs of the department in future years, supply requests, staffing needs, maintenance and full inventory of department.

 

Notes:

·         Each campsite runs their program for a varying length of time.

·         It is the responsibility of the individual to obtain and retain current certification prior to the start of their volunteering. The cost of certification is that of the individual.

·         Girl Guides of Canada, Ontario Council reserves the right to amend this job description from time to time.

·         Each camp has different options for supporting volunteers while at camp. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have discussed these fully during the placement period & before accepting any offers for volunteering.

Contract Dates (includes week of training):

Adelaide: Aug 4-22

Woolsey: June 12-Aug 1

Wyoka: June 12-Aug 23
