POSITION NAME: Volunteer Counsellor
REPORTING TO: Volunteer Coordinator
DEPARTMENT:
Contract Dates: One-week terms, from the beginning of June to end of September, 2010
SUMMARY OF VOLUNTEER POSITION:
To provide a safe recreational opportunity for the guests (adults, families, children and youth) attending the CNIB

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plans, implements and evaluates recreation programs. Arrives 15 minutes prior to assigned program.
2. Upholds all standards and policies of the CNIB Lake Joseph Centre, with particular care given to customer service.
3. Provides new and creative ideas with respect to scheduling, programs, and service delivery.
4. Takes an active role in all dining room duties and responsibilities.
5. Takes an active roll in all duties pertaining to change over day. Accepts responsibility for ongoing care and maintenance of assigned unit and its occupants.
6. Provides support, guidance, and leadership to volunteers and leaders in training.
7. Participates in general staff meetings and all ongoing and pre-camp training.
8. Willing to work as a team member taking on other areas of responsibilities as need arises.
9. Willing to work as an individual on some assignments.
10. Understanding and sensitivity to the unique and safety considerations that need to be taken when working with a special population.
11. Responsible to ensuring any/all guest(s) safety and assistance at all times.
13. Other duties as assigned.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
· Must be willing to reside at the Lake Joseph Centre near
· Must be willing to volunteer during standard camp hours.
· Must be willing to share accommodations with another staff or volunteer member.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Experience and interest in recreation programming in a camp setting.
· Must provide a Current Police Record Check before first day of training.
· Standard First Aid and CPR “C”
· Ability to work as a team member.
· Good communication and interpersonal skills.
· Experience with blind, deaf-blind and visually impaired children and adults as well as special need populations is an asset
· Minimum Bronze Cross is an asset.
