Health Care and General Counsellor Job-share Position

Camp Ouareau is a privately funded organisation that combines two different Canadian cultures at residential summer camp and takes pride in hiring a variety of women from around the world & Canada to add to our diversity in cultures. Lac Ouareau is located in the beautiful Laurentian mountains of Quebec, close to Montreal’s favourite ski hills.

This position is open to all nursing graduates who would like to experience camp as a Health Care professional (in July) and as a general camp counsellor (in August). Best of both worlds!

Since 1922 we have striven to provide a safe environment where young girls from Quebec, Ontario and around the world can discover their true selves. 

Health Care Professional Responsibilities (July): 

  • Providing first aid and assessing staff and campers for routine conditions.
  • Administering routine medications and treatments.
  • Maintain staff and camper health files including health history, patient consultation reports, daily medication administration, and treatment records.
  • Execute health screening for arriving and departing campers.
  • Keeping track of stock used, ordering supplies, and stocking first aid kits.
  • Promote health practices throughout the camp and act as a positive role model to our Health Care Assistant as well as all campers and staff at camp.

General Counsellor (Resource Staff) Responsibilities (August):

  • Bring an energetic new face to various activities throughout the day. Some days you could be at four separate activities, a different one every period. Other days you might spend the entire day at kayaking, because the Head of Kayak is on day off. 
  • Be a cabin counsellor to a group of 4 or 6 girls.
  • Teach a few swim or language classes every day depending on qualifications.
  • Dates: Contract runs from June 15th to August 23rd. 

Applicants Must:

    • Have a basic knowledge of French
    • Be licensed as a Graduate Nurse, Registered Nurse, Registered Practical Nurse or Medical Doctor.
    • Have their Standard First Aid and CPR C
    • Be available for the full contract term: June 15th to August 23rd. 

Dates Breakdown for Job-share
  • June 15th-June 26th participate in staff training and health centre preparation
  • June 26th-July 23rd act as Health Care Professional
  • July 23rd- Aug 23rd act as General Counsellor

Salary

  • The smallest and base salary at Camp Ouareau is $300/week. Salaries are increased based on responsibilities and experience of the staff member, all of which is discussed in the first interview.
