Position Available: Cook

Location: Keewaydin Canoe Tripping Camp,

     Devil'™s Island, Lake Temagami

Dates: June 20 to August 18, 2012 (approximate start and end date)    Transportation to and from the island will be provided at the beginning and end of the summer.


Qualifications: Completion of at least one year in either a hospitality or culinary program - or comparable experience. An enjoyment of the outdoors is necessary.

Description: This unique opportunity will give the candidate a chance to experience a high volume kitchen (serving anywhere from 28 to 200+ people) and contribute to menu selection, as well as gain some supervisory experience. The Cook will be responsible for assisting the Head Cook (Tanya McCubbin )in preparation of three meals a day. The Cook will assist with food handling, food preparation and proper storage of left-over food. The Cook will help with the supervision of the kitchen staff and dining room servers. The Cook is expected to adhere to all Temiskaming Health Unit and Safe Food Handling practices. The Cook is responsible for maintaining clean work areas and promoting a safe work environment. The Cook will assist in keeping the kitchen and dining hall clean. All of these duties will take place with the assistance of the Head Cook and Kitchen Manager.
Room and board is included and all amenities on the island are available for use by the staff (e.g. swimming areas, canoes, kayaks, tennis courts).
