Tucked away on 45 acres of sandy beaches and dense forests, accessible only by boat is Moorelands  Camp. Each summer we serve 600 economically disadvantaged children and youth from Toronto.  It is our desire to see each child enjoy nature, gain social skills and experience personal growth.

Working at Moorelands is demanding, challenging and rewarding! Our staff are enthusiastic, flexible, team players who will put the needs of others before their own. They are ready for the challenge of being a strong influence, a consistent role model and mentor to the children and youth that come to Moorelands. Staff are 18 years of age or older.

Camp sessions are 8 days in length; staff enjoys 2 full days off in-between sessions, transportation to Toronto provided for days off.

Moorelands Camp Job Description

Outdoor Living Skills (O.L.S.) Area Head

 Qualifications:  NLS or  Bronze Cross,  O.R.C.A. training, or equivalent. Proven teaching, leading and out-tripping ability.

General:  Reporting to the Program Coordinators, the O.L.S. Area Head implements the O.L.S. program which includes teaching Outdoor Living Skills, Campcraft and Out trip preparation.

Responsibilities:

Conducts regular checks, maintains a safe, clean, orderly program area, ensures that necessary equipment is available and the area is prepared for each camp session

Trains staff on sites, methods, equipment and programming

Responsible for supervision and support of O.L.S. staff as designated by Program Coordinator

Prepares inventory of all equipment

In consultation with the Program Coordinators, decides on overnights, trip routes, prepares trip plans and ensures they are submitted

Works with the designated kitchen staff ensuring that food packed for out trip is sufficient in quantity and fulfils set menus.

Supports O.L.S. staff in responding to behavioural situations and liaises with Section Heads as necessary.

Leads and participates in community care, afternoon and evening programming
