Integration Counsellors - Camp Davern

Position Purpose
Integration Counsellors are integral to the delivery of Camp Davern's program. Integration Counsellors have the skills necessary to provide program supervision to campers participating in the integration program program. Counsellors live on-site when camp is in session and during the required pre-camp training. These staff work one-on-one with campers. 

General Duties and Responsibilities
The Camp Davern experience is based on the building of a camp community. The camp community is supportive of all participants, staff and families and provides opportunities for growth and learning for all in spirit, mind, and body. Integration Counsellors are leaders in the camp community and play an important role on the Davern Staff team.

Integration Counsellors:
-Are responsible role models at camp and are aware that this continues throughout the year
-Demonstrates respectful and caring relationships with staff and campers
-Are child centered, focused on the needs of our participants
-Put the greater good of our participant's experience at teh forefront on every decision made
-Teach and role model the core values of the YMCA-YWCA
-Understand and practice the policies and procedures of Camp Davern

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Integration counsellors are expected to:
-Work one-on-one with a camper or staff volunteer and ensure that she participates and is part of the Camp Davern experience and community
-Plan and deliver fun, creative, and safe programs appropriate to the camper's age and development, facilitating the camper's relationship with her cabin mates
-Facilitate the volunteer staff person's participation in Davern programs, choose projects and activities that encourage community and personal growth for that participant
-Ensure the participant's needs are attended to: personal hygiene, sunscreen, bug spray, hats, hydration, nutrition, sleep and rest, medications, etc.
-With the other counsellors in the cabin, manage the cabin group dynamics to ensure a positive physical and emotional experience for all campers
-Develop an individual relationship with the other one-on-one camper or staff volunteer
-Create a supportive, communicative and cooperative relationship with co-counsellors and all other Camp Davern staff
-Communicate with Reach for the Rainbow Staff
-Communicate with camper parents as needed, call families before camper arrives at Davern
-Seek out support from Reach for Rainbow staff, other staff members, counselling co-ordinator and Director when needed
-Complete Camper Development Forms and report before the end of each session

Integration Counsellors may be asked to assist in duties not listed above.

Qualifications/Experience
-Minimum 2 years counselling experience
-Previous experience working/volunteering with people with special needs
-Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C
-Clear Criminal Record Check
-Attend and participate in %100 of pre-camp
-Attend and participate in 100% of Reach for the Rainbow training
-Bronze Cross, NLS preferred
