WATERFRONT COORDINATOR
POSITION PURPOSE
The Waterfront Coordinator is integral to the support of our campers overall camp experience through her supervision and support of the waterfront area and programs at Camp Davern. The Waterfront Coordinator has the skills, experience and qualifications and teaching experience necessary to provide support and supervision to both staff and campers.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Camp Davern experience is based largely on the building of a camp community. The camp community is supportive of all participants, staff and families and provides opportunities for growth and learning for all in spirit, mind and body. The Waterfront Coordinator is an important leader in the camp community to campers and staff alike and plays an important role in within Daverns Resource Staff Team.
The Waterfront Coordinator:
- Is a responsible role model at camp and are aware that this continues throughout the year
- Demonstrates respectful and caring relationships with staff, campers and parents
-Is child centered and focused on the needs of our participants
-Puts the greater good of our participants experience at the forefront in every decision made
-Teaches and role models the core values of the YMCA-YWCA
-Understands, practices and teaches Camp Davern policies and procedures
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Waterfront Coordinator is expected to:
- Support and ensure that counsellors plan and deliver fun, creative and safe waterfront programs appropriate to the campers age and development
-Be a role-model for staff and take an active leadership role at the waterfront i.e. guarding and teaching lessons, mentorship and support
- Creates a supportive, communicative and cooperative relationship with all counsellors and staff
-Provides support and resources for counsellors in all waterfront programs; swimming activities, canoeing, kayaking etc...
-Attend and participate in resource staff meetings as required
-Assist in leading pre-camp training
-Ensure waterfront programs are being delivered to a high standard and in keeping with program policies outlined in the staff manual (including OCA, CQRP and Ministry Standards)
- Complete administrative duties related to managing a waterfront (swimming logs etc... as outlined in the OCA Standards)
- Ensure that waterfront area equipment is safe and in good repair (docks, life-guarding equipment, buddy board, canoes, kayaks, lifejackets etc...)
- Ensure that all guards (NLS and Bronze Cross) are guarding to industry standards and as they have been trained in pre-camp.
- Ensure that staff are familiar with and follow the waterfront policies and procedures outlined in the staff manual
-Provide leadership in emergency situations
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
-Must be 20 years of age before June 30, 2008
- Minimum of 3 years counseling experience
-Previous life-guarding experience
- Life-guard supervisory experience
-Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C
- Clear Criminal Record Check
-Attend and participate in 100% of Resource Staff Training
- Attend and participate in 100% of pre-camp training
-NLS (Waterfront NLS preferred)
- Lifesaving Instructor
- ORCA Basic Instructor
- Kayaking Instructor an asset
- Familiar with Waterfront Standards Act
- F Class Drivers License
- Teaching experience an asset
