Pay: $5,500+
Project Canoe is a non-profit charitable organization that uses the outdoors, including wilderness canoe trips, to create a transformative environment in which our youth develop life skills, social competencies, and resiliency. We partner with our youth by supporting them as they carry these newly developed skills and successes forward to manage the complex challenges in their lives. Our youth come from a wide variety of backgrounds and are most often experiencing economic, social, behavioural, emotional and/or cultural challenges in their daily lives.
We are looking for enthusiastic canoe trippers to join our summer 2010 team. You offer to our team qualities such as, patience, compassion and excellent judgement, and a passion to mentoring our youth. As a trip leader with Project Canoe, you embrace our mission and are committed to supporting young people, your co-staff, and the organization.
At Project Canoe, you will lead 5-day, 8-day, and/or 12-day canoe camping trips in awe-inspiring Temagami. Along with one other co-staff, you will be leading canoe trips for youth between the ages of 13 and 18. As well, we offer Leadership in Training Programs ranging from 5 to 18 days for experienced participants who demonstrate the readiness to gain higher levels of leadership skills.
Room and board is provided to our staff for the entire duration of their contract, including all the necessary training. Through our comprehensive training, our trippers will earn their Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certificate and learn about various issues. For example, youth mental health, supporting youth in crisis, canoe trip risk management and environmental practices. Project Canoe is as rewarding as it is challenging!
