The Canadian Diabetes Association has operated Camp Huronda continuously since 1964. For seven years Camp Huronda rented space at Camp Beausoliel and Camp Couchiching prior to finding a permanent home in 1971 on Lake Waseosa at the previous site of Camp Waseosa.
Since its inception Camp Huronda has been a leading residential camp for children and youth age 8-16 living with type 1 diabetes. Camp Huronda offers one and two-week camping sessions, outtrips, a Leadership program and a 4-day Family Camp. Camp Huronda supports campers in the development of strong diabetes self-management skills while allowing these campers to pursue other traditional camping activities, including but not limited to; waterfront activities, arts & crafts, sports, adventure activities such as low ropes course, climbing, mountain biking, outtripping and horseback riding, to name a few.
Reporting to the Program Director, the Pottery Instructor works closely with the Art Instructor, and is responsible for designing and facilitating a high quality pottery program using a variety of techniques while taking advantage of the spectacular natural setting of Camp Huronda. The Pottery Instructor will engage campers to expand their knowledge of pottery technique and will focus on integrating exciting and novel pottery projects into the Camp Huronda program and ensure the program meets the CDA National Camping and Ontario Camps Association Standards. Along with the Art Instructor, the Pottery Instructor will additionally be responsible for packaging traditional craft activities for Counsellors and campers to work on during transition times. Additionally, the Pottery Instructor will be required to participate in all evening programs and special events when their duties allow.
Requirements: 18+ years old as of June 30, 2012, Standard First Aid and CPR C, ability to safely operate a kiln, knowledge of different pottery techniques, preference given to those with a fine arts education and/or background, previous camp experience an asset.
